TV producer puts focus on kids – Fresno Bee

Stephanie Riggs, who was a co-anchor with Bob Long at KSEE, Channel 24, from January 1988 to September 1991, has a new job. She is now a television producer.

“Fitting In,” a show about childhood obesity she started working on after her job at KCNC in Denver ended two years ago, will air at 7 a.m. Saturday on the ABC Family cable channel.

Riggs also is the host of the show, which followed a group of Denver children for a year. The children and their families were given instructions on how to eat properly, exercise and live a more healthy lifestyle.

Unlike network and cable shows dealing with weight loss, there are no weigh-ins. Instead, the show measures how much better the participants felt when they were in better health.

“Childhood obesity is a major epidemic in this country. What we found out was that the children were picked on. They were ashamed of how they looked,” Riggs says
