AVIVA — made Fitting In possible….

“Fitting In” has never been more challenging in a nation of kids expanding: New National Television show on ABC Family June 14 from 7-8am is looking for kids who are overweight, ready to make a change and want to Fit In!

Emmy award winning anchor, producer and writer Stephanie Riggs created and will host a new national television show on ABC Family this Summer (June 14 from 7-8am) that is helping kids and their families transform their health.

The CDC reports that one in five children are obese. After 20 years of anchoring and reporting the news in Denver and around the world, awarding winning anchorwoman Stephanie Riggs (formerly of CBS4) is taking her mission of helping children help themselves to national television. (Other missions: CBS Sunday Morning (orphans in Africa) and Colorado’s conjoined twins Lexi and Syd 48 Hours). “Fitting In” will air on ABC Family (in 88 million homes) on June 14, 2008 from 7 to 8 am.

Riggs produced and hosts “Fitting In” and features Colorado kids 12 and younger and their families. The show will explore what factors make the critical difference between temporary changes in health and those that last a lifetime. “Many of us use food to celebrate good times or ease our anxiety, depression, or loneliness and our children are taking notes.” Riggs is learning from the experts, “It’s not what you’re eating, it’s what’s eating you. We often think that food gives us emotional relief but once you stop medicating your feelings with food, it’s very important to find other ways to deal with your emotions.”

There will be no scales, no elimination, and no losers. Riggs has assembled an impressive team of life coaches including multiple Super Bowl winner Ed McCaffrey, Warren Miller film star and extreme skier Chris Anthony, along with Colorado’s top nutritionists (Julie Hammerstein), fitness specialists (4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do Theresa Byrne), Dr Reggie Washington the head of the national childhood obesity task force and Dr. Wayne Braddock a chiropractor who specializes in alternative medicine – specifically muscle testing for foods sensitivities that can slow down your metabolism and lead to weight gain. Our style coach – Laura Kristi –completes the team – this top model does all the makeovers. The Gap let’s Laura help the kids pick out new clothes and they each get a new hairstyle courtesy of the top stylists in Denver.

“The life coaches will encourage the kids to clean house and remove anything that stands in the way of their goal. Many families they are not even aware of the poor health choices they are making every day.” Most kids would rebel against a plan that’s too restrictive so they will be encouraged to “move it and lose it” by doing something as simple as convincing Mom to park a little further away from a store entrance or walking the five blocks to school with mom or dad instead of being driven. The kids will also learn that they don’t have to refuse snacks and desserts, just make sure it’s in moderation along with plenty of fruits and veggies, lean proteins, good fats and exercise.

Fitting In showcases the Colorado High Country and includes a stop at Red Rocks to meet the Goo Dolls who sing the show’s theme song, “Let Love In” The program is for any family looking for some inspiration to get healthy this summer. Fitting In inspires families to make changes for our kids that will last a lifetime
